Teenie triumph: 15-year-old Sheldon van der Linde secures championship with a double victory.

Sheldon van der Linde (ZA), who is just 15 years old, has won the title in the Engen Volkswagen Cup. This win makes Sheldon, who is the younger brother of the 2013 Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup champion Kelvin van der Linde, the youngest champion in the history of the Engen Volkswagen Cup.

His competitors didn’t get a look-in in the last two races of the season on the Zwartkops Raceway in South Africa, with this young star winning both times. In the first race, van der Linde pipped Mathew Hodges (ZA) and Tasmin Pepper to the post by two seconds at the end of ten laps on the 2.4-kilometre track. And in the second race, van der Linde clinched victory at the end of twelve laps, ahead of Shaun Le Réservée (ZA) and Pepper. Van der Linde’s teammate Daniel Rowe (ZA) secured second place overall in the championship, followed by Dewald Brummer (ZA) in third place.
